animation jogger guide

Animating a Jogger

Photoshop

Animating a Jogger

You are given the file with the assets already drawn. These are in the server folder called Animation. You are to animate a 2 second sequence using Opacity and Transform.

1. Open the file. There are three layers. The background, standing and sprint.

Layers Panel

2. The standing and sprint layers are Smart Objects. This will enable the characters to be transformed (flipped in this case). The background layer is not a smart object.

Timeline Panel
3. Begin by keyframing Opacity. Click on the Stopwatch icon of both the standing layer and the sprint layer.

The keyframe for frame 1 has been set.
4. On the Layers panel click on the sprint layer and move the opacity slider to 0%.

Opacity set at 0% on Sprint layer, frame 1
5. Move the Current Time Indicator along 2 frames. The current time indicator is the red line with the blue top.

6. On the sprint layer, change the opacity back to 100%.

7. On the standing layer, change the opacity to 0%.

Scrub the current time indicator and the character now looks like he is striding.

Current time idicator on frame 02
8. Move the current time idicator 2 more frames and switch the opacity for each layer from 100% to 0% and from 0% to 100%.

9. Keep moving the current time indicator 2 frames and changing the opacity until the 2 second duration is complete. The timeline should look like this:

Timeline with opacity keyframes

The animation will look like this:ok, but it is not too convincing.

A gif of the animation

Improving the animation by Holding the Interpolation.

Instead of having the legs fade we can hold the interpolation. This will then have the legs appearing open and closed without the see-through-appearance.

1. Click on the Opacity bar in the Timeline (here you see it as blue). This will select ALL the keyframes (they should all turn yellow to show they are selected).
All keyframes selected on the sprint layer. Click in the opacity bar (the blue area on the Timeline)
2. Hold the Control button on the keyboard and click on the first keyframe (the yellow diamond).

3. Select Hold Interpolation (at the bottom of the menu).

4. Repeat this action for the remaining layer. ALL opacity keyframes should now be SQUARE in shape.

5. Play the animation. This time the character doesn't appear to fade, but changes from wide apart legs to standing.

The animation with the interpolation held
Further improvements:

1. Keyframe the Transform layer to make the character move across the frame. Click on the stopwatch next to the word transform.

2. Make sure BOTH layers are selected on the Layers panel. Then move the Current time indicator to the 1 second position.

3. Move the character to the right of the frame.

4. Move the current time idicator 1 frame only.

5. Go to Edit > Transform > Flip Horizontal.

6. Move the current time indicator to the end of the sequence.

Now play the sequence. The character should run across the frame, turn and run back. It should look something like the below.

The sequence. This is on a loop.
This is a loop so he is running forever. The actual sequence is just two seconds long.

Well done! You should have an animated sequence!

Extension Tasks:

1. Draw your own character moving about using the technique shown above. The example above uses just two figures in different positions. To have a more realistic movement, you would need to have more.

2. Create a new background that is 1576 pixels wide (double 788 pixels) and 576 pixels high. Copy and paste the new background into the existing animation. Keyframe the background to move too.

3. Try using the same assets to make the figure go slower. Instead of working on twos (where two frames are the same, work on threes or even fours. The only way to really learn is to experiment.

Oscar nominations UNIT 9

What is the title of the animation? The title of the animation is the bear story .
Who made the animation (the animator, the director etc.)? Gabriel Osorio is the director and the producer/animator is Pato Escala.
What is the animation about and what is happening in the animation? The animation is about bears and a man bear has like a toy box for animation robots for kids to look in and see whats happening. In this animation a little bear saw a movie box and a bear that owns it start to rotate the stick to make the robots move, it started and the little bear puts his face at the window and saw a little world with three bears , a mama bear , a daddy bear and a little bear getting ready to take a picture . After they took a picture ,robots hand stick on frame on each side of the picture and then it went to another world where it tells a story about how a bear got taken a way by some group of wicked people to perform at a circus and he was a slave there until he came up with a idea to do a perfomance to excape out of the circus . He got a bike and ride down a steep hill to jump over some animals but instead he jumped out of the circus to go meet back with his family. while he was getting the way the wicked men chase him but the failed to catch him and he reach back home to his family and they where there and they greet with a big hug .
Is the animation aimed at a particular audience? No its not aimed at a particular audience , It can be aimed at any audience at any age in my prospective view .
Indicate what the style of animation the short is (e.g. cel-animation, stop-motion, digital 2D animation, 3D computer generated animation etc).  The style they use for this animation was 3d computer generated animation .
You are to include your own thoughts about the animation:  How is it drawn/created? What colours are used and why? What is the mood of the animation and how does it make you feel? Do you like the characters? What genre is it (comedy, horror, sci-fi etc.? ) This animation was drawn on a piece of paper and then transfer to a 3d computer to be animated for more detail . The color they use in this animation was green, brown , blue ,orange and a few more colors  . The animation makes me feel a sad , carrying , and happy way in my own thoughts . Yes i like the characters they where animated very well in the video. ill put this in a adventure action genre .=88

unit 9

Frame by Frame

In this technique we are using Photoshop, but instead of animating using the layers and tweening, we are going to make a simple frame by frame animation. Those what made the gif animation will find this very similar.

!MAKE SURE YOU SAVE YOUR WORK EVERY FEW MINUTES!

1. Set up the Photoshop file as below.
Set up file correctly
2. Open the Timeline panel from the Window menu and open the Layers Panel.

3. On the Timeline Panel click the Create Frame Animation option.

4. The Timeline should look like the picture below. There is one frame on the Timeline. Note the 0 sec. and arrow at the bottom of the frame.
Frame Timeline
5. One the page, draw a simple stick figure.

6. On the Layers Panel, select the Make New Layer icon to make a new layer. It is at the bottom left of the Panel next to the Trash Can.

7. On Layer 2, draw over the figure you drew on Layer 1, but NOT the arms and legs. Draw the arms a little higher and the legs a little higher. It looks a little odd, but you are seeing through the top layer to the bottom. I should look something like the one below.
Two layers with the eye turned off on layer 1

!!!Check your drawings different and you have not drawn two sets of legs or arms!!!

Timeline Panel Drop down menu
 9. On the Timeline select the menu on the top right.  The picture above shows it surrounded by red.
Click and select Make Frames From Layers.

Make frames from layers
10. Look at the Timeline and play the animation. There are only 2 frames so it is very quick at the moment. Stop the animation.

We are going to improve it now. You need to click on the frames to make them active. ALSO click on the corresponding layer on the Layer panel.

11. Click on Frame 1 of the Timeline AND layer 1 on the Layers panel and slightly move the figure down to the bottom of the frame.

12. Click on Frame 2 of the Timeline AND layer 2 on the Layers Panel and move the figure up to the top of the frame.

Figure moved down

Figure moved up
  LET'S ADD MORE FRAMES!
1a. Select both frames. Go to the menu at the right of the Timeline (the one circled in red you used before) and select Select All Frames.
Select all frames

2a. From the same menu, select Copy Frame
Copy Frame
3a. From the same menu, select Paste Frames...
Paste Frames
4a. From the Options panel that pops up, select Paste After Selection and click OK.
Paste Selection
On your Timeline you should have 4 frames now! Great the sequence is twice as long.

Keep pasting the frames until you have 24 frames altogether.

unit 9 stop motion

My group of friends came up with this simple stop motion 12 frame film with a pencil and a rubber .

animation unit 9

1. Find another example of cel (traditional) animation, create and write a post/page of your finding.

  • Traditional animation  is an animation technique where each frame is drawn by hand. The technique was the dominant form of animation in cinema until the advent of computer animation . Example shown below
  • A cel is a transparent sheet on which objects are drawn or painted for traditional, hand-drawn animation . Actual celluloid was used during the first half of the 20th century, but since it was flammable and dimensionally unstable it was largely replaced by cellulose acetate

2. State two facts you learnt from watching the video by Sheila Graber (above). Two facts i learn from the video is that she use multiple sheets to create her film . For each drawn picture she writes  e1 j1 in cells . She manage each frame for whats going to happen next . She use black water marker for the final sketching of the animation . The sheet she use was exposure sheet .

STOP-MOTION

Example of a stop motion <iframe src="https://player.vimeo.com/video/9173975" width="500" height="375" frameborder="0" webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen allowfullscreen></iframe>
  • Stop-motion has been around since the late 19th century. It involves adding movement to inanimate objects. The object was photographed, moved a bit and then photographed again. This process is repeated a number of times. After this, the photos are patched together in order to create animation.

4. Find an example of an animation that has used computer generated 3D. Briefly describe how the animation was made. Add the information to your blog with the title"Computer Generated 3D Animation."

 COMPUTER GENERATED 3D

  • Computer animation, is the process used for generating ANIMATED IMAGES  by using computer graphics . are graphics that use a three-dimensional representation of geometric data that is stored in the computer for the purposes of performing calculations and rendering 2D images. Such images may be stored for viewing later or displayed in real-time
